Understanding the Bible: The Eyes Were Opened

This importance phrase, “Your Eyes Shall Be Opened,” represents knowing the knowledge of evil according to the serpent speaking to Adam and Eve below. We will read Genesis Chapter 3, and discuss why I believe the Holy Spirit is showing me this vital understanding of the Bible. It is necessary for spiritual growth. This story is more than a reference about human’s disobedience. It is a key to unlocking the mind to truth. Let’s begin to read with verse one:

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

What happen? After their encounter with the serpent, their eyes were clear to see that they were nude. They received unfruitful knowledge or dead works not ready to understand for use. Both offer unacceptable worship towards God by lying and justifying their offense and wrongdoing.

Sin is?

An immoral, evil, and wick act considered to be a transgression against the divine law given to mankind in the eyes of God.

One single commandment was given to Adam. He believe God and shared that importance word with his wife, Eve. Both listened to the serpent and “did eat” from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Since they did not reject the unfruitful knowledge and follow dead works of eating the wrong kind of nutrition. Sin embraced the world in every way through the desires of the eyes. Remember, they are the window to the soul. This fable of the eyes has some truth to it. Proverbs 15:11 states, “Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?” In order words, If the Lord can see everything in the world of the dead, He can totally see in our hearts.

I want to make this expression clear, “in our hearts, or from my heart” is the depths perception of the mind. It is your visual field from your imagination, where desires, wants, and needs are found. The heart is the source of actions.

This action by Adam and Eve stirred my heart (mind) to the words “the eyes…were opened.” How does the eyes relate to worship? Worship is a vital part of communication; our express self towards our Lord God. You must have a heart desire to submit to the perfect will of Him. If you are seeking this internal articulation, your eyes will guide this endeavor.

Matthew 6:22 states, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” You do understand that if your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. This Light represents truth of righteousness. Here’s one example from the Old Testament, let’s read about The Feast of Unleavened Bread from Exodus Chapter 13 starting at verse 3:

And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.

This day came ye out in the month Abib.

And it shall be when the Lord shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.

Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord.

Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters.

And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.

And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the Lord’s law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the Lord brought thee out of Egypt.

10 Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year.

God has always tried to help the children of Israel to stay focus by giving them a sign. Do you think that signs are for His children today? This answer is no according to John 6:26, “Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.” Miracles are signs for an unbelieving generation. Why must our eyes see signs and wonders instead of the truth in Almighty God? Oh, right it was the fruit! “Seeing with the eyes” represents no faith according to Matthew 12:38, “But He (Jesus) answered and said unto them (Pharisees), An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:” Jesus had warned us of this carnal type of worship. We must see with our eyes first, then we will believe. Why? Because our eyes were opened! The heart of everyone who follows the teaching of the Holy Scriptures, taught about God, knows that this illumination will not cause you to hid from His presence. This untimely wisdom is unfruitful and evil at the core (heart of the fruit). Please do not have God ask you, as He had asked Eve, “What is this that thou hast done?”

Seek the Lord wait it is still time!

Sinning visually has caused many to believe in this New-Age, Mystical, Transcending Christian like occult worship practices for discernment. If you are doing any of these, please listen up and repent. You will never be a god. Many may have some evil lying signs and wonders, but you will never be a god. This is what the example of Lucifer (the serpent) is for. To show us what not to do for own selves. Your eyes will deceive you, so don’t let it. Thinking your great powers is from above, while your heart is slowly being thrown into darkness. Saying Jesus name for ill-gotten gain. This is not the understanding of wisdom. Keep our eye single (transform your heart or mind) into the likeness of Christ’s Spirit (Romans 12:2 and Titus 3:5).

I pray according to Ephesians 1:8 that your understanding (in your mind) be opened through your eyes only by reading God’s Holy Word and do His commandments. This is your reasonable worship.

Let’s practice now with these scriptures, and I will join with you next time, my brother or sister in Christ:

Psalm 19:8
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Ephesians 1:18
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Hebrews 6:1-8
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3 And this will we do, if God permit.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
