Genesis 4:8-16
Sometime after the two brothers completed the offering to the Lord, “it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him (Genesis 4:8).” Why? Do you know? It was vexation of his spirit. God just warned him to control his emotions (Genesis 4:7). Lets’s read between the lines. What is the truth that got Cain out of control? The bible tells us to know the truth in order to set our minds free in Christ Jesus (John 8:32). Did you guess Cain’s response? We do not know what transpired with their conversation, but we can show Abel’s offering of righteousness to God (Genesis 4:4). Maybe explaining why Cain’s offering was rejected (Genesis 4:5). Cain didn’t like the truth that was told by Abel. Envy always wishes that you had what someone else has. The serpent (the Devil) convinces you to do the unthinkable, so Cain hated his brother that much to murder Abel.
“And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper (Genesis 4:9)?
Sin is controlling emotions, such as sadness, rage, bitterness, envy, and murder. Don’t let sin control you (Genesis 4:7). Cain had a choice not to sin, but he followed his desire.
“And he (the Lord) said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; (Genesis 4:10-11)”
Understand the Bible: The Curse Given to Mankind by God
Jehovah God tells Cain that the blood he has shed calls aloud for vengeance. The earth cried because it was stained with the blood of Abel. It felt no justice or peace. But, “the blood of Jesus speaketh better things than that of Abel” (Hebrews 12:24). Peace and goodwill were restored on earth and towards men (Luke 2:13-14).
“That upon you (Scribes and Pharisees) may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar” (Matthew 23:35).
Just as the recorded offering of truth between the two brothers, many church leaders of today will persecute and murder sent prophets and teachers to the people of God (Luke 11:47-49). They will do anything to keep the truth from coming out about salvation and true worship (Luke 11:52). The curse continues due to the hinderers of false hope and lies. No one can bear good fruit under these conditions ( John 15:1-2).
“When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.” (Genesis 4:12-13).
When Cain cultivates the ground, it will not give her strength in abundance. He will be a homeless wanderer on the earth. Complaining to God that his crime was a guilty spirit.
“Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.” (Genesis 4:14-16).
Cain felt that it would be fair game to be bullied because he was driven from the presence of the Lord. A mark was placed on Cain for protection against early death.
This is the completed story of faith and worship. The beginning relationship with our Lord God, as He explains discernment indirectly to us. There are choices because of the curse. We can walk in righteousness and holiness, or follow our emotional desires. Sin awaits those who do not take control of it. Cain and Abel is an example of acceptable and unacceptable worship towards God. When you do not follow the instructions given to you, confusion takes place to anger and anger leads you to be out of control.
Cain is the first recorded person to murder another, his brother Abel, because of anger from not doing God’s command correctly. This is what happens when our minds were open to the knowledge of good and now evil! You must understand that we are to love one another in doing right before God, and not as Cain and his evil wicked worship.
