“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
Matthew 7:20 KJV
Not everyone that professes they are Believers in Christ knows what to look for in the hope of fellowshipping with a brother or sister of God. A brethren is symbolized as a “Fruit Tree” in the book of Matthew chapter seven. There are only two types of people: good or corrupt. What type of fruit does this child of God bear? Below is a list of distinguishing features for you to recognize:
- A Follower of Jesus Christ.
- The fruit of the Spirit is shown to others.
- Mature spiritually in the things of God.
- Walk in discernment.
- Lover of God’s Holy Scriptures.
- An ambassador of righteousness and holiness.
- A passion to help others succeed.
- A heart to worship God correctly.

(v.18) “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.”
A Follower of Jesus Christ
“If any man serve me [Jesus], let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”
John 12:26 KJV
You can’t pretend for a long time. Your true colors will start to show. Children of God follow their master, Lord Jesus Christ without hesitation. They made a rational decision to follow the Messiah. What a great honor to do so? Laying down their cross to follow the Lord (Matthew 10:38). Every weight of this world can be cast out onto the Lord; for He cares for you. Trust that He led you to where you need to be before Almighty God.
Many people are still playing childish games with their life. Admiring the World by saying they love God (Matthew 15:8), but following the power and prince of this world (Ephesians 2:2). You can’t serve two masters (Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13). You will love one or hate the other. If you try to, you are double-minded (James 1:8; 4:8). You are not to be trusted – period! In all honesty, you are not a true follower of Jesus Christ. You are a wolf (Matthew 7:15), and your master is the Devil (1 John 3:8).
“Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.” (John 8:43-45)
True Followers do according to John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me [Christ Jesus].” Every Disciple of Jesus glorifies God through their actions.
The fruit of the Spirit is shown to others.
“Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”
John 15:8 KJV
The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. Free will is made known by grace; which identifies obedience to the Lord in the spirit. Love expressed is shown to others through God’s grace and mercy. Paul expressed to us in Galatians 5 that our walk must be spiritual, not the work of the law, and in doing so, we follow the Guider through the true and rational knowledge of Jesus the Christ. He is leading the way of Truth (John 14:6).
The Holy Spirit helps us to be ambassadors of Christ shining the light of God’s glory to those around us; that ever-present hope in the midst of darkness of this world. Seekers of Truth will see the love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Galatians 5:22-23). The fruit of the Spirit that every true disciple has within.
You’ll never have to say to others, “I’m a Christian.” They will have a knowing from the fruit that you’re bearing.

Mature spiritually in the things of God.
“But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
Hebrews 5:14 KJV
Spiritual Maturity is a mark of growth within your Christian discipleship; especially when storms of life happen. Will the fruit of the Spirit be made manifest within, or will this individual not endure under pressure?
After salvation, every follower of Jesus is a “Babe” needing the milk of the Word (Hebrews 5:13), until you study to show yourself approved (2 Timothy 2:15), and use your discernment. To survive in this world, you must learn between holiness and unholiness.
If you are still being spoon feed by someone, then you are not a teacher of the Word, strong in faith, or a discerner. You cannot handle spiritual enlightenment, eat “strong meat” of the Word. It is reserved for those who have grown to full maturity. For this reason, you exercise your faith with the senses of the Holy Spirit (James 1:3).
They aren’t swayed by opinions or traditions. Only stand for righteousness and holiness. Always trying to control their flesh and balancing the cares of the world with obedience to God’s commands. If you are reading this and saying, “Wow, I’m not there yet!” Don’t worry, everyone grows up in the physical, as well as the spiritual. Growth is the key to Mature. Keep practicing what you have learned from the Bible, and your senses will be entuned with the things of God.
Walk in discernment.
“Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.”
Malachi 3:18
What is it for Christian to discern between good and evil? It is discernment; the act and skill of discerning. The “aged-Christian” (mature-Christian) are those who walk in this enlightenment. If you can handle right or wrong intent and motive, you are a Discerner. The power of God give you the wisdom and insight into any and all matters through the anointing of the Holy Spirit Proverbs 1:2). Mental Clarity is the ability to walk in this life with God. No other medium can discern this. Maturity comes from hearing and doing God’s principles; adhereing to sound doctrine, patience (Hebrews 10:36), and temperate (1 Corinthians 9:25). At all time, have the ability to uphold Truth (Psalm 15:2).
If you don’t have this ability yet? Please don’t fret. It will come from studying the Word of God. The more you understand with your rational and genuine thoughts, you can apply (Psalm 119:66).
“Get [skillful and godly] wisdom! Acquire understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth (Proverbs 4:5 AMP).

Lover of God’s Holy Scriptures.
“He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”
John 8:47 KJV
Everyone remember their first love. It is the same emotions when you finally decide to walk with God. You want to know more about Him. Spend all of your time and money. Buying and learning from Christian books and streaming music. Doing everything to know more and more. Give of yourself in excellent communication. Smiling and laughing. Enjoying life with the Lord.
“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God” (2 Corinthains 4:1-2).
Knowing in our hearts that “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5). So we walk by faith (Romans10:17): for this pleases Him to do so. Everything that does not come from faith is sin (Romans 14:23). We are blessed by Him (Luke 11:28), because we keep His Word.
In Christ verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him (1 John 2:5). To read more about the maturity of God’s children, start with the book of Titus chapter 2. Continue walking a righteous walk because of the love we have for the scriptures.
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4). Keep Hope by Keeping the Word of God Alive!
“Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” (Titus 2:12).
An ambassador of righteousness and holiness
“In holiness and righteousness before him [Jesus Christ], all the days of our life.”
Luke 1:75 KJV
Mature Christian follows this scripture in 2 Corinthians 5:20 which states, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”
Who do you represent? Think about it. It’s so vital that you be honest about it. This ambassador position is not something to play around with. Genuine and Sincere Heart is required. An ambassador represent Jesus Christ to the unsaved (Jeremiah 49:14). They are in need of a physician, as Jesus said in Mark 2:17), because they are sick. Of what, you might be saying? They are sick of sin. It keeps others in slavery to it. Ambassdor helps with the rescue plans of salvation; to get sinners to repentance for righteousness sake. A faithful ambassador brings health to the wicked (Proverbs 13:17).
The gospel of peace (Romans 10:15; Ephesian 6:15) is freely give to those who believe by faith, and that Jesus is the only way to the Heavenly Father (John 14:6). They must be born-again (John 3:3,7), and yield their bodies to righteousness unto holiness (Romans 6:19).
If this is a desire of yours, put on the new man created after God’s image (Ephesians 4:24). Every Follower of Jesus Christ can prepare themselves for the journey by reading Ephesians 4:17 through 5:33. Everything about God is true holiness, and you are to walk in His place. You need to glory God, so be an initimator of God (Ephesians 5:1)! Be holy for He is Holy (Leviticus 20:7). Walk in righteousness for Jesus did just that here on earth. Be Righteous (Romans 8:4). Now are you light in the Lord: walk as children of light.
A passion to help others succeed.
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV
An ambassador of God is His representative. They have a heart to do His reasonable service. One of their servitude is giving. God happens to love this. It pleases Him when you do. According to Jeremiah 49:14 and Obadiah 1:1, the Lord sent His true ambassador unto the heathen (nations). Why? There is good news of great joy. Repent for the Kingdom of God is at Hand: “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him [Christ Jesus]” (John 3:16-17).
Today God is calling His ambassador for Christ. To help according to Matthew 25:40, which said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” The reverse is true in Matthew 25:45. Please change it, if this is you.
Giving is a true worshipper of God’s nature: To show forth the glory of the Lord, and to see others grow up spiritually in Christ. All who are mature in the faith, and seeing the evil is approaching quickly, help others to be wise and succeed.

A heart to worship God correctly.
Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
What is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship? Are you worshipping in spirit and in truth according to John 4:23-24? Will your offering be acceptable to God? This is something you should really think about.
Many are worshipping, but are not correctly worshipping God His way. This is serious, my Brethern. You must serve God on His terms, not your own.
“For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness [to be dedicated, and set apart by behavior that pleases Him, whether in public or in private]” (1 Thessalonians 4:7 AMP). All things must be done by His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). If not, they are futile, like vanity and chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 2:24-26).
You were created to worship God: to have a good relationship with Him. However, it must be done according to His purpose and will. Here are the prerequisited:
- Repent of your sins
- You must be saved
- Learn about worship
- Worship in truth
- Worship in spirit
