We Must Give Our Best To God
As we worship God, there is one thing that we give Him, we give Him ourselves. Romans 12:1 says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service.” God’s extended grace and mercy through the Old and Test Testaments. Each was required to present an acceptable offering to the Lord God, but for some reason, they forget about Genesis 4:7 where God express to Cain the following: “If thou doest well, shall thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.” This fact is still true today. We must give our best to God.
Under the Old Testament, the offerings turned from acceptable to unacceptable, where God condemned them; due to vain worship (see lesson 9). When you have some time, I encourage you to read the complete Book of Malachi. The people of Judah had turned away from the true worship of the Lord, let’s read in Malachi 1:8, “And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil?” leaving themselves under judgment and in need of salvation. Is it not just as evil today? God is still saying, “If thou doest well, shall thou not be accepted?”
Today under the New Testament we do not offer animal sacrifices, but we give Him our “bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service.” How do we offer reasonable service to Him? Anyone can start by accepting God’s best to us through His son’s sacrifice, second, by studying to show yourself approved unto Him, third, according to Matthew 22:37, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind,” and lastly, by sharing this good news of Jesus Christ. There are many other things you can do for God, just ask Him. Whatever that is, it must be your best in worship towards the Lord!
We are to do all that God says and in the way, He says to do it. This is right in God’s sight and true acceptable worship. Jesus says in Luke 6:46-48, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” Your worship foundation will be a house built on a rock of your salvation in Jesus Christ if you remember lesson 3. Salvation is synonymous with worshipping God and keeping His commands. All unauthorized worship will never be acceptable, so please just “worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).” Give God your very best from a genuine heart, and acts of worship (praise). Only those who are obedient to the will of God consider it a privilege and honor to offer our best to the Lord each day. Thank you, Lord!
